Visible Light Transmission (VLT) levels refer to the amount of light that passes through a lens or glass. The regulations specify different requirements for various windows:

For Windscreen & Rear Glasses

Every motor vehicle's windscreen and rear window safety glass must transmit at least seventy per cent of visible light and adhere to Standards IS 2553 (Part 2) (Revision 1): 2019, subject to periodic amendments.


For Side Glasses

The safety glass or safety glazing on the side windows of every motor vehicle must allow at least fifty percent visual light transmission and comply with Indian Standards IS 2553 (Part 2) (Revision 1): 2019, subject to periodic amendments.

Understanding VLT and IR Rejection Measurement
